Plan Review

Plan review is an important step in the effective management of new construction projects, additions, renovations, roofing systems, and fire protection or gas-fired equipment installations that may occur at Affiliated FM client facilities. Our engineers will review plans and specifications submitted by our clients' contractors to ensure they meet customer-established project requirements.

Plan review services are supported by the latest in loss prevention advice and guidelines. These guidelines are the result of years of hands-on research, testing, loss analysis and experience with design, construction and protection suited to each client's occupancy. By using plan review services, our clients can rest assured their contractor's project plans will deliver the level of property loss prevention and protection a client has specified.

Clients also can benefit from a wide range of additional property loss prevention resources, including:

  • Loss Prevention Guidelines - FM Global Property Loss Prevention Data Sheets contain specifications for construction, protection and system design that are recognised as the standard for quality property loss prevention around the world.
  • Approval Guide - FM Approvals tests and Approves construction systems, building materials, protection equipment and other equipment for use in hazardous areas. FM Approved equipment can be identified by the
FM Approved "diamond" certification mark. The Approval Guide is published and updated three times a year, and can be used as a handy reference when detailing project specifications for materials and equipment.
  • Natural Hazard Zones - FM Global has carefully catalogued high-hazard wind and earth movement zones, as well as screening for flood exposures. This can help our clients evaluate potential project sites and determine appropriate design criteria, as required.
  • Special Expertise - Clients also can access specific loss prevention expertise through local technical specialists. Their role is to provide advice and counsel working with Affiliated FM clients, and jurisdictional authorities if desired, to assist on highly specialised projects or cutting-edge systems or technology.
  • Technical Support - Plan review engineers are available to answer questions and provide supporting technical material to Affiliated FM clients, as well as contractors conducting work for them.

Please contact your local Affiliated FM representative or engineer for further details on any plan review services or resources.
